Modified Play Dough Recipe

Call me insane but I love reading school newsletters. I love knowing what is happening around the school (yes, I am nosy), reading reminders and what I can do as a parent to benefit my child's learning.

Our newsletters come in digital form as well as paper, which is just as well because Tyler is yet to bring his home and he has apparently it got lost so I can see I have my work cut out for me with the school paper trail.

Tyler's class is requesting parents to help out with play dough. This was my calling, as I make play dough every two months or so as it gets a big work out in our house.

I usually use the recipe on the back of the Cream of Tartar container. After having a quick chat with Tyler's teacher she told me a little secret.

Rather than mixing the ingredients in the saucepan over heat. Boil the water instead and add this to the dry ingredients, then add the food colouring. Once less dish, it's quicker and super easy.

Mix the ingredients except for the water and food colouring in a stainless steel bowl so the food colouring doesn't spoil the bowl.

Add 1/2 tsp of food colouring and 2 cups of boiling water and mix until it comes together (need muscles here).

 Let it cool down.
Knead the dough until smooth and the colour is even.

All packaged up ready to give to Tyler's teacher. I had to remove the lids for the dough to cool down, I was too impatient for this photo.

Try the new recipe, it's super easy and the kids love it.

Have a great day.

  1. Great tip! I hate doing the stove thing because the smell of cream of tartar cooking is just awful. I will definitely try this.

I'm also a 'top to bottom' reader of the newsletter. I think I'm nosey too. I mean, I read stuff that has absolutely nothing to do with my kids' classes!! x

Maxabella, I think we need to be nosey in order to be' in the know'. No shame in that seeings my son doesn't share much about school. Good luck with the play dough too. I found it so much easier. Hayley x
